My father sat me down and said, “The apartment is officially in your brother’s name. He’s starting his own life and needs a place to begin.” I nodded. “I understand.” At 7 a.m., I called a moving company, packed my belongings, and called my contractor. By noon, the floors were bare, the light fixtures were gone, and the custom furniture was in a storage unit. My brother texted me, “What did you do to the apartment?” I replied, “I took back what I paid for.” At 6:12 p.m., my mother called me, crying. My father showed up at my office. I didn’t open the door. Then, an email landed in my inbox: “URGENT: Legal Dispute Regarding Property Rights.”
