Avalanche is a 1978 arcade video game designed by Dennis Koble and released by Atari, Inc.. In the game, players use a set of paddles to catch falling rocks, which become faster and smaller as the game progresses. The main goal is to catch falling rocks with controllable paddles to prevent them from reaching the bottom of the screen.
The game begins with a six-tiered platform (paddles). As each row of rocks is cleared, the player loses one platform, and the remaining rocks fall faster and become smaller. Points are awarded for catching rocks, with higher points given for catching rocks from the topmost rows.
The gameplay of Avalanche heavily influenced Activision's popular 1981 Atari 2600 game, Kaboom!.
