Cobra Kai Audition Stories & How The Cast Landed The Roles

Cobra Kai must have been a whole lot of fun to cast for! Bringing back all those beloved actors from the original Karate Kid series, as well as bringing in a whole new cast of talented kids with very little karate training would make for such an interesting process! What amazes us about the stories of these auditions is how many people had no idea that Cobrai Kai was connected to the Karate Kid series and had to be told by their partners or parents! Xolo Maridueña’s audition was the most straightforward. Then they get a bit weird. Tanner Buchannon was up in Toronto, Canada filming Designated Survivor when Cobrai Kai came up. Mary Mouser made a big mistake when it came to her audition. Her boyfriend was not too impressed and pushed her to fix it. Jacob Bertrand was betrayed by the industry and still with only ten minutes managed to scoungr together a winning audition. Peyton List relied on a certain cast member to send the word along, fearing her Disney image might have an impact. Gianni DeCenzo experienced a first thanks to Cobra Kai. Billy Zabka and Ralph Macchio got two completely different pitches. Courtney Hengler was just about to quit acting before this audition - you won’t believe what stopped her! Martin Cove loved the script because he got to play a more developed character. Thomas Ian Griffith was shocked they wanted to bring him in at all. Vanessa Rubio used a little something she was already experiencing. And Elisabeth Shue was just happy to be there. We’re happy you’re happy, Shue! Check it out!
