The Evolution of Time: Sivan Zeffertt’s Unsunk

When we think of sculpture, we imagine something monumental, solid, and lasting. Yet, time is ever-changing—gradual or immediate, fleeting or transformative.

Since its installation in October 2024, Sivan Zeffertt’s Unsunk has embraced this transience. Crafted from steel wool, woven cotton, and handmade ceramic sinkers, the work has slowly surrendered to the elements.

Rain and river moisture have triggered rust, the wind has unravelled delicate threads, and the once-intact ceramics have fractured and crumbled.

As Unsunk weathers, fragments, and decomposes, it resists the permanence we often associate with sculpture. Its altered form reminds us of our impermanence—how we, too, exist only for a moment in time.
