🛣 Road Condition + Tolls: What to Expect
Based on recent info, here’s roughly how the drive is likely to be:
Aspect What You’ll Likely See
Highway Type Mostly national highways — some stretches well-maintained, others with roadworks or diversions. Especially when approaching urban areas or crossing state borders.
Traffic Heaviest near Kolkata exit & near Varanasi, plus towns in between. At night traffic may ease, but risks include potholes, unlit stretches, and slower moving vehicles.
Delays / Diversions Due to highway widening / maintenance, some diversions. Toll / checkpoint delays possible. Fuel / rest stops may add to time.
Toll Plazas You will encounter multiple toll plazas. For example, from Kolkata ↔ Varanasi there are tolls like Mohania, Sasaram, Rasoiya Dhamna, Nivedita Setu, etc.
Toll Costs For a car/jeep/van, on one route the total toll is reported as ≈ ₹ 875 from Varanasi → Kolkata. But we used Annual Pass which made a huge difference..

Fuel / Breaks You’ll need to plan 2-3 stops for fuel/restrooms/meals. Keep in mind state boundary check posts or mandatory stops. Night drive means fewer food outlets open.
