Liurong Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple located in the heart of Guangzhou, originally built during the Liu Song Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties, boasting a history of over 1,500 years. It earned its name when the renowned poet Su Dongpo visited and inscribed the characters "Liu Rong" (Six Banyans) after being impressed by six lush banyan trees on the grounds. Despite the changes through dynasties, the temple remains a vibrant center of Buddhist worship and a key cultural landmark in Guangzhou. Its most iconic structure is the Liurong Flower Pagoda, a 57.6-meter tall brick-and-wood pavilion-style pagoda. It appears to have nine stories externally but contains seventeen inside, with its vermilion railings and glazed tiles gleaming in the sunlight. Climbing the pagoda offers a panoramic view of the old city.
