The project focuses on addressing the needs of flood-affected communities in Rufiji through a comprehensive, community-driven approach. A total of 600 of the most vulnerable households will receive food aid via Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA). Beneficiaries will be identified through an open community-based selection process that ensures transparency and prioritizes female- or elderly-headed households, as well as those with disabilities. Local leaders, women representatives, and other stakeholders will play a key role in developing selection criteria, conducting sensitization sessions, and ensuring community participation in decision-making.
To support education recovery, the project will construct eight new school classrooms and renovate Ngarambe Primary School, which suffered significant damage, including the loss of roofs, windows, and doors. Four schools identified by the Rufiji District Disaster Management Committee as the most affected will benefit from these efforts. In addition, 2,800 vulnerable children from these schools will receive scholastic materials, with priority given to children from single-parent households, those with disabilities, and those most severely impacted by the floods. Selection will involve consultations with headteachers and local leaders.
The initiative also includes school gardening programs that engage parents, children, and administrators to promote sustainability and community ownership. Children will acquire skills they can apply at home to enhance household food security. A robust Complaint and Feedback Mechanism will be implemented to gather community input, address concerns, and foster accountability throughout the project's execution.
