On April 16, 2009, WTVS formally ceased operations in analog TV earlier than the FCC's mandated shutdown date, which was June 12, 2009, requiring all national TV stations in the United States to switch to digital TV only, as a reason, WTVS signed off in analog due to numerous breakdowns of their old TV transmitter since January 1, 2009.
As a border TV station, serving the viewers in Detroit and Windsor (Canada), the station plays both national anthems of the United States and Canada.
