Restoration of a MASSIVE Antique Italian Meat Cleaver | Incredible Restoration Video

Join me as I restore a massive 100-year-old meat cleaver from Italy. Witness the transformation of this heavily rusted and aged butcher’s tool into a stunning masterpiece.

RESTORATION PROCESS
I began by carefully disassembling the handle from the cleaver blade and welding shut the worn pin holes. The blade underwent sandblasting to remove deep rust, followed by careful heating to straighten its shape. Next, the blade received a full annealing treatment at 879 degrees Celsius, which effectively reduced hardness and relieved internal stresses in the metal, making it ready for reshaping.

Afterwards, I ground a sharp new cutting edge at a precise 30-degree angle on one side, dramatically enhancing its cutting performance. A heat treatment process followed, achieving an impressive Rockwell hardness of 60-62 HRC, perfect for a durable, sharp cleaver.

To enhance its visual appeal, I etched detailed patterns onto both sides of the blade. For the handle, I crafted a beautiful new grip from a reclaimed piece of vintage hickory wood, adding both authenticity and style. A final touch included custom laser engraving and unique decorative accents, giving this antique tool new life.
