"Unfiltered" Conference 2025 - Dialogue - "Success and Family"

The 2025 edition of Cultivate SG's annual conference, "Unfiltered - The Family on Trial", was held on 17 November 2025 at the Lifelong Learning Institute. The conference seeks to expose and deepen understanding and conversations concerning unseen and upcoming issues related to marriage, family and children.

What is our attitude towards success in Singapore? And do these ideas of success complement or contradict our values about family?

Join Assoc Prof (Dr) Tan Seow Hon, Mums for Life co-founder Fannie Lim and Cultivate’s research and policy lead Daniel Lim as we unpack these ideas of success, their impact on marriage, family and children, and consider how we can pursue holistic flourishing.

Assoc Prof (Dr) Tan Seow Hon teaches legal theory at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University. She has been researching on human flourishing, virtues and the law. In her recent project on success and flourishing in Singapore, she has sought to unearth the roots of Singapore’s pursuit of success in the narrow sense.

Fannie Lim believes that strong marriages build strong families which is essential for nurturing every child’s potential. She lives out this ethos personally and through having co-founded the Mums for Life movement. In her day job in a charity, she champions social mobility, empowering children and youth from lower-income families.

Daniel Lim is the research and policy lead at Cultivate SG, where he studies and advocates for families and social harmony. He is passionate about turning research into conversations and solutions that strengthen families and bring communities together.
