Fretboard Roadmap: The Power of Three on a String Scales

This course has three objectives:

1)  To become vastly more familiar with the notes on the neck.  By learning and practicing these patterns regularly, you’ll span the entire fretboard over and over again.  With time you’ll be able to see other patterns and shapes connecting to these scale patterns.  

2)  To train your ear!  As you practice these patterns in different musical contexts you’ll become more familiar with how each tone in the major scale sounds relative to the rest of the scale and to the music you’re playing over.  You’ll start laying the groundwork for modal playing and you’ll be able to musically and intentionally use certain intervals to evoke specific feelings or emotions.

3)  To build your technique.  Each week we’ll ‘drill’ the chosen pattern.  Not only will you learn the pattern, but we’ll work on one new sequencing idea per week that you can apply to all the patterns when you’re ready.  You’ll have many musical sequences in your bag by the end of this course and you’ll get workouts in alternate picking, legato playing, and consecutive picking.  Throughout the course we’ll be playing in the key of G, but we’ll be starting on different degrees of the scale on different weeks.  There will be many exciting sounds discovered!
