The University of Hawai‘i football team opens Mountain West play Saturday night in a rivalry matchup with Fresno State at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors (3-1) enter the contest riding momentum from nonconference play but face a stiff test against a Bulldogs ground attack that leads the league. Fresno State is averaging 6 yards per carry with 12 rushing touchdowns on 143 attempts, paced by Bryson Donelson’s 325 yards and two scores and Rayshon Luke’s 224 yards and five touchdowns.
“It’s football at its purest form,” Hawai‘i senior defensive end Jackie Johnson III said. “They’re trying to run the ball … who’s going to be tougher, who’s going to be more stout. That’s the stuff that excites me as a real football player.”
