1. He'll continuously bring his ex up.
If out of the blue (starting on the first date) he mentions his ex. This could be a red flag. Especially if it's in a positive light. Bringing his ex up out of nowhere is a sign that he's thinking about her and that he misses her to even mention it to you. This doesn't include when you're asking about his last relationship. This is more random in-between moments that he brings her up.

2. He still talks to his ex secretly
If he's still talking to his ex and keeping it from you that is a red flag that he misses her. This is especially true if he's telling his ex secrets or sharing information with them that he doesn't with you. The point here is not that he's talking to his ex. It's that you don't know about it. Why is he keeping his contact with an ex a secret from you? That's the bigger question.

3. They compare you to their ex constantly
If you find yourself competing against his ex in conversations that is the biggest sign that he's not over her. You shouldn't be compared to another person ever. You're a new person he's dating and if he wants you to act as his ex did. Then you need to bounce that relationship immediately.
