Honoring the Placenta (Ari-Ari) Ritual in Bali and Indonesia
In the Indonesian language, the placenta is called the ari-ari. What happens to the ari-ari after birth? As I've been researching this question, I've discovered that there are many ways to handle the ari-ari around the world. In the past in the US the placenta was generally considered to be medical or biological waste and was disposed of by the hospital. It appears that that is beginning to change in the US. But more on that in another video.
In today's video, I will briefly discuss a few examples of how the ari-ari is handled cross-culturally. The focus of this video will be on the ritual handling of the ari-ari here in Kampung Bugis. When my next grandchild is born sometime early next year, I will discuss more examples of the cross-cultural handling of the ari-ari.
Thanks for viewing, stay safe, and be kind to someone today.
