You Won't Believe She's 100 Yrs Old & Had The Attitude & Lovers To Prove It

This is 100 year old Rhea interviewed back in 2006. Back then I had a wonderful job as the head of a startup called Sagas. We were going to offer video interview recording services to citizens around the country. I trained 5000 local videographers in a certain style of interviewing that I found worked best to capture the stories of ordinary folks in ways that would have meaning for the generations that came after.

Many people make home videos recording loved ones but somehow, two generations later (I am old enough to know this) the videos have little meaning. That's because folks ask irrelevant questions and not the meaningful ones that will help descendants understand the people they came from. Oprah Winfrey says that a person is much stronger if they know their roots. But what roots – what stories – will matter to your grandchildren and their grandchildren?

While the business failed (that's another story) we did manage to record over 100 individuals using local videographers. This videographer had never done an interview before and this 100-year-old lady was more than ready to tell her story.

The interviewers did not know the people they were interviewing before hand and had just a few notes from relatives. That is partially why so many of the people we filmed spoke so honestly and in such detail. They were talking to a friendly face who didn't know their stories.

Rhea died four years after this interview was recorded.

I am 81 1/2 years old as I write this today and hope that I can be at 100 has lucid and positive thinking and charming and open as Rhea is in this interview.
