India’s Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, has said the Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared for a long-duration conflict with Pakistan, underlining a decisive shift in India’s military doctrine. Speaking in Delhi, the Army chief said Operation Sindoor—launched after the Pahalgam terror attack—reset long-standing strategic assumptions by striking deep into terror infrastructure while deliberately expanding conventional military space without triggering nuclear escalation. General Dwivedi said the operation destroyed seven of nine identified terror targets and remains ongoing, with sustained pressure along the Line of Control and the western front. He dismissed Pakistan’s nuclear rhetoric as political posturing, noting that nuclear issues did not feature in military-to-military DGMO talks. The Army chief warned that any future misadventure will be met with a calibrated, decisive and sustained response, adding that preparedness, credibility and strategic clarity now define India’s approach to cross-border terrorism.
