Pentax ME Super Sticky Shutter Repair

This is one of the most common problems with the Pentax ME Super, often referred to as the "infinite wind" or "sticky mirror" issue, both of which are symptoms of the same root cause impacting the shutter/mirror mechanism. 
The issue is typically caused by the degradation of a specific rubber/foam bumper or bushing inside the mirror box mechanism. Over time, this material turns into a sticky, gummy residue that binds a critical lever or gear, preventing the shutter from completing its cycle (often on the second curtain) or the mirror from returning correctly. 

Warning: This repair requires significant disassembly of the camera, including the mirror box. If you are not experienced with delicate camera mechanics, it is strongly recommended that you send the camera to a professional for a CLA (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust). Proceed only if you are confident and have the proper tools.

🛠️ Repair Steps for the Sticky Shutter Mechanism
The fix involves accessing the binding lever (usually on the right side of the mirror box, viewed from the front) and cleaning off the sticky residue.
• Remove Batteries: Ensure the camera is de-energized.
1. Remove Top Plate: Follow the initial steps from the previous response (remove rewind knob, ASA dial, winding lever, and top plate screws) to access the interior.
2. Remove the Front Board/Mirror Box: The front assembly containing the mirror box and shutter linkage needs to be removed. This is a major repair step: 
• You may need to unsolder wires connecting the electronics to the body (as described in the PC board removal steps).
• Remove screws that hold the Front Board and Mirror Housing Complete Assembly to the main chassis.
3. Clean and Relubricate: Once the mirror box is out, you have clear access to all the affected levers and gears.
• Clean: Thoroughly clean all sticky components with your chosen solvent.
• Lubricate: Apply a tiny, pin-point amount of a high-quality, light camera oil or synthetic watch oil to the newly cleaned pivot points only. Do NOT over-lubricate, as oil spreading is what causes new stickiness. Many parts are designed to run dry or with a specialized dry lubricant.
4. Reassembly and Test
• Reverse Steps: Carefully reassemble the camera, making sure all screws, washers, and wires are correctly replaced.
• Test Shutter: Test the shutter at various speeds (especially the 1/125s mechanical speed) and in Auto mode to ensure the problem is resolved and the camera cycles normally.
