FIB agents Steve Haines and Dave Norton have previously tasked Franklin with killing Trevor for being a liability, despite having saved both of them. Later, Devin Weston shows up at Franklin's house and tells Franklin to kill Michael in retaliation to his involvement in Molly's death, his unwillingness to allow Meltdown to be canceled, and his intervention when Weston tried to kill Michael's family. Weston offers Franklin three options: A, listen to the FIB agents; B, do as Weston himself says; or C, try to save both Michael and Trevor. After Weston leaves, Franklin is given a set of three options on his cellphone: Kill Trevor (A), Kill Michael (B), or Deathwish (C).

Choosing option A commences this mission and has Franklin call Trevor to meet him at the oil field off El Burro Heights. On the way there, Franklin calls Michael to inform him of the situation and ask if he can help. Michael is hesitant, saying that it "sounds like [Franklin's] thing", but that he will see what he can do.

Trevor arrives at El Burro Heights after sundown to find Franklin waiting for him. He claims to already know what this is about, saying Franklin is trying to be a "peacekeeper" between him and Michael, but that Trevor, still viewing Michael as a traitor, is not interested. However, much to his shock, Franklin pulls a gun on Trevor, telling him that he is the problem, not Michael or himself, and he would most likely end up getting all three of them killed. Baffled, Trevor argues that he has done nothing but be truthful to Franklin, who concedes the point but does not let down the gun, remarking that the truth is not what he is interested in.

Furious at having been been betrayed again, Trevor flees in his truck, denouncing Franklin as a Judas and accusing him of being "just like [Michael]", driving around the city and eventually into the oil fields, with Franklin in pursuit. Michael calls Franklin to tell him that he is close, then arrives in a stolen Premier and rams into Trevor's truck, which causes Trevor to crash into a gas tanker, rupturing it and covering Trevor in gasoline. Subdued, Trevor crawls out of the truck and denounces Michael and Franklin for betraying him. With nowhere to go and with gasoline spilling from the tanker and pooling around him, he resigns himself to his fate and Franklin then shoots the gasoline, setting Trevor ablaze. If Franklin hesitates, Michael will shoot the gasoline instead. Regardless, Trevor is burnt to death by the flames and the entire tank explodes, destroying his truck.

With Trevor gone, Michael and Franklin reflect over how Trevor's violent and psychotic behavior led to his demise and how there were no limits to his insanity. Franklin sarcastically thanks Michael for the "education", which Michael counters by telling him that only survival matters and everything else is "bullshit". The two head their separate ways as the credits roll in with a view of the city.
