Shah Amanat International Airport (IATA: CGP, ICAO: VGEG) is the second-largest international airport in Bangladesh, situated in Patenga, southwest of Chattogram city, along the banks of the Karnaphuli River. It lies approximately 20 km west of Chattogram Port and 18 km south of the Chattogram railway station .

Originally constructed during the early 1940s under British rule, the airport served as a combat airfield during World War II. It was officially designated as an international airport in 1990. In April 2005, it was renamed in honor of the 18th-century Islamic saint, Shah Amanat .

The airport underwent significant development starting in 1998, funded by the Japanese government, with the project completed in December 2000. Upgrades included a new passenger terminal, enhanced security equipment, and improved runway and taxiway systems, enabling the accommodation of large aircraft such as the Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A340 .

Shah Amanat International Airport serves both domestic and international flights, connecting Chattogram to major cities like Dhaka, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. Airlines operating from this airport include Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, Jazeera Airways, Oman Air, and Salam Air .

The airport offers a range of passenger facilities, including check-in counters, baggage claim areas, customs and immigration services, dining options, retail shops, lounges, banking services, ATMs, currency exchange, internet access, public telephones, duty-free outlets, pharmacies, first aid services, and conference rooms .

Additionally, Shah Amanat International Airport functions as a base for the Bangladesh Air Force, known as the BAF Zahurul Haq Base, and supports operations for Bangladesh Naval Aviation and the Bangladesh Army Aviation .

With an annual handling capacity of 1.5 million passengers and 6,000 tonnes of cargo, the airport plays a vital role in the region's connectivity and economic development .
