This video provides a comprehensive overview of the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination, which is conducted by the UPSC to recruit officers for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force (0:06-0:12, 1:28-1:44). The NDA exam is held twice a year, in April and September (2:29-2:40).
Here's a breakdown of the key information discussed:
Eligibility Criteria (2:47-5:22)
Age Limit: Candidates must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years old (2:56-3:02).
Gender: Both male and female candidates are eligible (3:15-3:28).
Marital Status: Candidates must be unmarried (3:31-3:33).
Educational Qualification:
Candidates from any stream (PCM, Arts, Commerce, Biology) can apply for the Army Wing (3:46-4:05).
For the Navy and Air Force Wings, candidates must have studied Physics and Mathematics in 12th grade (4:05-4:18).
Candidates can apply while in their 12th grade (appearing) or after passing 12th grade. It's crucial not to fill the form in 11th grade (4:46-5:22).
Examination Pattern (5:30-10:00)
The written exam is a total of 900 marks (5:33-5:38).
Mathematics: 300 marks, with 120 questions. Each correct answer earns 2.5 marks, and there's a negative marking of 0.83 marks for incorrect answers (5:40-6:29). The syllabus covers 11th and 12th-grade mathematics (6:32-6:50).
General Ability Test (GAT): 600 marks, with 150 questions. Each correct answer earns 4 marks, and there's a negative marking of 1.33 marks for incorrect answers (6:53-7:40). GAT consists of three sections:
English: 50 questions (10:59-11:13)
General Studies (GS): 50 questions, covering History, Polity, Economics, Geography, Current Affairs, and Static GK (6th to 10th grade level) (11:14-11:46).
Science: 50 questions, primarily 9th and 10th-grade Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (11:49-12:16).
Both papers are 2.5 hours long and are conducted on the same day in two shifts (7:01-7:16, 7:47-7:54). The exam is objective type with no step marking (8:30-8:48).
The general cutoff for the written exam is usually between 320 and 360 marks out of 900 (9:45-9:57). Approximately 2% of candidates qualify for the written exam (10:21-10:37).
Selection Process (13:48-17:17)
Written Exam Qualification: Candidates first need to qualify the written exam (13:48-14:02).
SSB Interview: A 5-day Service Selection Board (SSB) interview, which is also 900 marks. It includes screening tests, psychological tests, physical tests, ground tasks (GTO), a final interview, and a conference (13:53-14:40, 15:06-15:12). The overall cutoff (written + SSB) is generally between 700 and 800 marks out of 1800 (15:36-15:46).
Medical Examination: Candidates must be medically fit to proceed (15:53-16:11).
Final Merit List & Training: After clearing all phases, a final merit list is prepared, and successful candidates proceed to the NDA Khadakwasla for a 3-year training period (16:14-16:36).
Academy Allocation: After 3 years of training, cadets move to their respective academies: Indian Military Academy (IMA) for Army, Air Force Academy (AFA) for Air Force, and Indian Naval Academy (INA) for Navy (16:36-16:57).
Preparation Strategy & Tips (9:00-9:34, 12:16-13:40)

GS & Science: Complete NCERT textbooks (6th-10th grade for GS, 9th-10th grade for Science).
