To conclude my four day stay on the Southern Oregon Coast in late June 2025, I parked near the Cape Blanco State Airport and walked into Floras Lake State Natural Area. Floras Lake State Natural Area is a vast splendor along the southern Oregon coast, located in northern Curry County between Bandon and Port Orford. The Natural Area features 10 miles of multiuse trails to destinations including Blacklock Point and Floras Lake, as well as 3 miles of sandy beach and almost 1,500 acres of pristine mixed forest. First visited Blacklock point for an amazing view of the geological outcropping and view. Then I hiked down the Oregon Coast trail to Sixes beach for a view of the offshore rocks and islands. Next, I hiked back along the Floras Lake Waterfall trail along the Blacklock cliffs; stopping to take in the views along the way. There is a prominent sea arch on the beach that was shaped by waves. The area offers views of the rugged coastline, the ocean, and unique rock formations.
I was absolutely astounded by the raw coastal beauty of the area. This was my second visit and there is still so much to explore. I stayed until after sunset. This particular section of the Oregon coast always leaves me spellbound. I knew that staying so late would cost me sleep, but it was well worth it. I only saw a few groups of people early on during the day, but after that I was completely alone with scenery and the wildlife. I walked about 4 miles back to my car in the dark. I didn't get to bed until the sun was rising the next day.
This park holds a place in my heart. It has inspired me to explore the whole Oregon coast and gave me a deeper appreciation for nature. @WanderlustMAX
