For many conditions where the brain stops working properly due to the
damage or death of brain cells (known as neurodegenerative disorders), the medicines available to treat the condition only manage the symptoms of disease.
There is a lack of medicines that can slow down or stop neurodegeneration. In recent years, there has been interest in developing new treatments that are different to drugs, in that they involve the use of cells or genes (known as advanced therapies) to target disease.
Here we will explore how different advanced therapies are being developed as treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.
