Since I’ve had a few people ask about my left hand recently...
Seven years ago I found out that I have something called Dupuytren’s contracture AKA Vikings disease in my left hand. I’d never heard of it at the time but it’s fairly common in males over 50. In a nutshell the tissue in your palm thickens and eventually forms cords just under the skin. As the cords thicken they pull the fingers toward the palm. In my case it’s my middle and small finger. Fortunately it’s painless but it makes playing the guitar a challenge, especially chords.
Over the last year, I’ve focused mainly on building guitars, pickups and working on my house. I haven’t been playing or even listening to music much, trying not to think about it.
A couple of weeks back I meet with one of the top hand surgeons at UCI. I’m kind of fired up about getting surgery now, I’m scheduled for Dec 7th!
I’ve even been in the mood to pick some. This is a melody I made up over the chords to Cherokee. I’m using one of my floating pickups (shipping out a batch next week) and a Gibson BR-3 amp.
