The FV103 Spartan tracked APC didn't evolve independently; rather, it was developed as part of a broader armored combat vehicle lineage, led by the Scorpion light tank equipped with a 76 mm gun. This lineage, consisting of seven primary members, was manufactured by Alvis Vehicles, with the Spartan serving as a specialized combat team carrier. Contrary to its role as an infantry combat section vehicle, the Spartan typically operates in roles such as combat engineering, battlefield reconnaissance, or air defense missile team carrier. A total of 967 FV103 Spartans were manufactured.
