Shamiyat: a folk Damascene dance that draws on the spirit of traditional shami music and depicts a homey, fun, & artistic tradition dating back to the late 1800s where Damascene women would meet up for a lively evening to have good food, lounge, and make art. The tradition used to also be followed in other Syrian cities.
Performed as part of the Cafe Cairo dance show organized and managed by Ashley Rhianne.
Location: the Anza Club, Vancouver on November 18, 2022.
