February 3, 1925 — A historic day in the history of Indian Railways. On this very day, the first electric train in India ran between Mumbai CSMT and Kurla on the Harbour Line.

From 1925 to 2025 — Indian Railways has now completed 100 years of electrification. To commemorate this century of electrification and EMU services, the Howrah Division recently decked up one of its 3-phase Medha rakes in a special livery, naming it “Vajra”.

Similarly, the Sealdah Division gave a makeover to two of its 3-phase Bombardier rakes. A few days ago, the second rake emerged from Kanchrapara Workshop in a completely new avatar. Instead of going directly to Sealdah, it was routed via Kakurgachi Junction Cabin, passing Sir Gurudas Banerjee Halt, and finally reached Sonarpur Car Shed.

Sources reveal that several old rakes at Sonarpur are currently undergoing PoH (Periodical Overhaul), leading to a temporary shortage of rakes. This newly refurbished rake was sent to Sonarpur to bridge that gap temporarily.

However, as the overhauled rakes started returning one by one, this rake was sent back to the North section as 30511 UP Champahati–Majherhat Local on the morning of July 8.
