Welcome to my channel. Where I document life and gardening both at home and at the allotment. I am based in Lincolnshire , UK.
This is a session I do once a year . It doesn't normally take 3 hours but I have a lot more strawberry plants now and I am building another Strawberry bed at plot 2 also.
Catches you up with the basics of strawberry growing and when I feel I do not explain well I clarify with text boxes. If you know nothing about growing strawberry's then this video will help you get the gist but as with all plants I say try growing you learn from growing anyhow.
If you have the situation where you can root all the runners in soil like the gutter method on my shorts (found here) • How to make Strawberry plants from runners... more will take and be successful however you can root them after they are removed from the plant they are just not as successful. I left the bed as long as possible just to give them chance to produce the most roots and the majority of them already have .
Varieties I have planted are :-
1.Elsanta
2.Cambridge Favourite
3.Elegance
The Chrysanthemum I took cuttings from is the one I show you in a different video. If you follow my videos you will know.
Strawberry runners do take a little time but they are free plants and Strawberry's are expensive to buy both in plant and fruit form so 100% worth it and that's without taking into account these are organically grown. The last strawberry plants I bought were 6 for £10.
Personally I found this 3 hours very therapeutic. Sun was shining albeit a little cold.
As with most fruit plants strawberry's are very weather dependant so this year spring 2025 I did get runners I had to remove before it had fruited on some plants. This was due to the warm and dry season we had. There is a pattern they grow , produce strawberry's and then send out the runners so you feed them in Spring when they are actually growing. Some of you may also remember the slugs did get a lot of my strawberry's and if they didn't then the birds did. I need plenty so I can share.
Thanks for watching
