What If The Jedi Never Learned of the Clone Army on Kamino? Let’s explore the depths of it in the video.
As Dooku gives the order, hundreds of battle droids open fire, and every Jedi in Petranaki arena is cut down. This video plays over and over again in the Senate building as they decide what to do next.
It has been several weeks since the disastrous rescue attempt on Geonosis. With the droid armies mobilized, they have begun their advance in the Outer Rim, capturing multiple systems.
Yoda himself pledges the Jedi’s support, but their numbers are few. Jedi across the Outer Rim to try and halt their advance, but this is like a few pebbles fighting a tidal wave. Though skilled and managed to destroy multiple battle droids before they fall, the Jedi are still eventually overwhelmed.
With each death, their reputation sinks further as many question whether they can even protect the Republic, much less keep the peace.
But after several weeks of defeat, Palpatine arrives with a solution, the Republic’s army. As if pulling it from thin air, Palpatine reveals his newly ordered clone army. He thanks the Kaminoans for their efforts who are invited to the senate, but the exact details of their creation are kept a secret.
This allows the Jedi to redeem themselves as Palpatine suggests that they act as the general for the clone army. Many eagerly agree, but Yoda is skeptical. He questions how Palpatine was able to raise an army quickly and where he found the Kaminoans. But the chancellor and Kaminoans are tight-lipped about this and stonewall any attempts at questioning.
Seeing as he will get no help from them, Yoda instead turns to the Jedi. Though without Mace, Obi-Wan, and so many others the Order seems much smaller. Instead, he asks Master Jocasta to research everything about Kamino, but her search comes up empty which confuses the intrepid librarian who ventures into the archives. Soon the answer becomes clear as she sees the information was deleted from the archives.
Without any leads to go off on, Yoda focuses on the funeral for the dead on Geonosis. Although the bodies were not recovered, he still feels like they deserve a sendoff. Quiet chants echo through the courtyard as a sense of loss hangs in the air. Yoda watches the procession, his face a mask of calm.
Among the mourners is a large, portly Besalisk, Dexter Jettster. He detaches himself from the crowd and approaches Yoda before bowing his head.
Dexter: Master Yoda… I’m sorry for your loss. Heard what happened on Geonosis. A real shame what happened to Obi-Wan.
Yoda: Dexter. Far from your diner, you are. Business, this is?
Dexter: And personal stuff. Obi-Wan was my friend. But yeah… someone left this for me. Said it was meant for the Jedi, but they didn’t wanna risk dropping it off at the Temple themselves. Figured it must be important if they’re that scared.”
He hands the datapad to Yoda, who takes it carefully. The old Jedi’s sharp eyes scan the screen. It displays a set of coordinates labeled Kamino, a receipt for a massive order of clones signed by Sifo-Dyas, and a brief but chilling message:
“Beware Sidious. He is closer than you know.”
Yoda: Grateful, I am, for this. Tell me, who gave it to you?”
Dexter: In my business, you don’t ask if they don’t tell. They left credits on the counter and slipped the datapad under my napkin. I figured I’d better bring it to someone who could understand it.
The two shake hands before Dexter heads off.
With this information, Yoda and Adi Gallia head to Kamino to investigate the matter personally. As Master Sifo-Dyas is supposedly a Jedi, they frame their trip as a negotiation to discuss the clone army moving forward. Master Gallia is a famed negotiator and her presence lends credence to this idea.
Although they expect to be greeted with suspicion, Prime Minister Lama Su himself comes out to greet them, spreading his arms out but Yoda notices the suspicions in her eyes.
Lama Su: Greetings, Master Jedi. Welcome to Kamino.
Yoda: A pleasure it is, much we have to discuss, especially with the war raging.
Lama Su: Indeed, I am very pleased that the chancellor has agreed to finally deploy our clones. Now the galaxy can see just how effective they truly are.
Lama Su guides them through the facility, his tone proud and confident. Below, young clone cadets spar in combat drills while older ones don armor and prepare for deployment. Others are conducting live-fire drills, using jetpacks, or studying tactics.
Lama Su: As you can see, our clones are the finest soldiers in the galaxy. Accelerated growth and rigorous training ensure readiness to deploy. We will have thousands more to deploy soon. As you can see with their success in Ryloth and Malastare, the clones are the perfect soldiers.
