Disillusioned with the US government, William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) moves his family to the Montana wilderness. As a teenager, his son Tristan (Eric Johnson) is attacked by a grizzly bear and cuts off a claw. Years later, in 1913, Samuel (Henry Thomas) returns to Montana from Harvard with his new fiancée Susannah (Julia Ormond).

Based on the novella by Jim Harrison, LEGENDS OF THE FALL follows Col.
