MACHONISA is the first single from BOMU (Botswana Musicians Union) award winning artist Eureka the Coverboy's sophomore independent album, STAGEWORKS. The song performed extremely well on Botswana radio; staying on the number one spot on the Yarona FM top 20 chart for a record long 4 weeks. It reached the top 10 on the RB2 top 40 chart and is currently enjoying massive airplay country-wide.
The word "Machonisa" means "Loan Shark". The song depicts the life of a man who asks for help from a loan shark to relieve his poverty. It goes on to explain that the reason he is in that state is because of ALL the credit extended to him. It paints a morbid yet comic picture of Botswana's micro-economy, where credit (hire purchase, micro-loans, credit cards) is the order of the day.
Commenting on the song and it success Eureka says, " I'm very glad people in my community love the song. It is very different from my normal style of rap. Its good music with a strong African presence. Traditional African music emphasizes on social commentary with a clear message, much like old school rap music. I just wish young people would actually listen to the words in the song and educate themselves on financial matters so as not to find themselves in such a mess. Its hard being disciplined with money when you are young in today's world. Especially when so much media and music glorifies splurging... "
