Black Hills Central 108 is the newest member of the railroad’s fleet, completing its first runs in the spring of 2020. Now, it has begun earning its keep, making daily runs from Hill City to Keystone, pulling seven cars full of tourists. 108 began its career for the Potlatch Lumber Company in 1926 as their number 24. It later became Weyerhauser Timber Company’s 108, and continued to serve into the 1950’s. After spending many years at the Northwest Railway Museum in Washington, it was acquired by the Black Hills Central in 2016. Restoration was completed in 2020, and 108, along with its sister 110, now pulls trains up and down the Keystone Branch’s steep grades.
