The TFD in 2003 was established as the first national democracy assistance foundation in Asia and has since been dedicated to assisting the deepening of Taiwan’s democracy, promoting democracy in Asia, and becoming an active participant in the global democratic network.

The Foundation on June 25 held its 15th anniversary celebration event in Taipei, and President Tsai Ing-wen in her welcoming remarks said, “Democracy means respect for our differences, including people with different ideologies and beliefs. It also means finding ways to bridge our differences through understanding, dialogue, and consensus-building, so that we can move on together as a whole.” She also called on like-minded countries to work together and stand together in fighting against unwanted economic, political, or military coercion from the world’s emerging “sharp powers,” and defending the values we hold dear.

臺灣民主基金會是亞洲地區所建立的第一個國家級民主基金會，自2003 年起，本會致力深化臺灣民主、推廣亞洲民主，並且積極參與國際民主網絡。本會在6月25日舉辦十五週年國際會議，蔡英文總統在開幕演說中表示，臺灣民主的轉型並非和平順遂。「我們不會忘記先進先賢在長期追求民主的過程中遭到起訴或受難。他們的故事，提醒我們轉型正義的必要，因此，臺灣人民可以和過去和解，一起向前走。」

總統認為，我們的民主還很年輕，還有空間變得更好。「民主是尊重我們的差異，包括不同意識形態和信仰的人，民主也必須藉由理解、對話和建立共識來設法消弭分歧。」
