How to Install Cruise Control - Jeep Cherokee XJ ['97-'01]

How to add Cruise to an XJ that didn't have it. Should apply to 1997-2001 models with the 4.0L. No idea if it works with the 2.5L, Right hand drive, or any foreign models. Some information may apply to the TJ.

You will need:
-Cruise Control Module
-Cruise Control clockspring
-Cruise Control Buttons (99-01) or Steering Wheel (97-98)

I also replaced the battery tray, turn signal switch, and added a tie down for the battery.

If it weren't for the steering wheel literally self destructing, this would've only taken about 2 hours I reckon. Very easy job assuming the shaft isn't rusted somehow. Highly recommend.

Cruise Control is designed to operate at any speed between 30 and 80 mph. It is very consistent in the XJs because of the 4.0's immense torque output. Cruise is activated by pressing the "ON-OFF" button on the steering wheel, followed by pressing the "SET" button when you're at your desired speed. A Green dashboard light indicates the status of cruise control. When it's not in use, deactivate it entirely by pressing the "ON-OFF" button again.

Cruise can be cancelled at any time by pressing the "CANCEL" button, pressing the brake, pressing the clutch, or taking the transmission out of gear. To resume its last selected speed, press the "RESUME/ ACCEL" button. Pressing the "RESUME/ ACCEL" button while cruise is active will increase the vehicle speed by 2 mph increments. Tapping the "COAST" button will decrease the set speed by 1 mph increments. Holding the "COAST" button will disable cruise and set it again at whatever speed you're at when you let go of the button.

It is not advised to use cruise control in city driving, heavy traffic, any wet or snowy conditions, or driving on steep hills.

TRIVIA FACT: Cruise Control was a $250 option from the factory. The SE and Sport trims had to be optioned with it, while the Classic and Limited trims had cruise standard.
