Two weeks after the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Director General clarified that the tax reform was not introduced without preparation, addressing growing public concerns. Speaking at the second GST press conference, Director General reported that around 3,820 businesses have registered so far, including 1,820 from Thimphu.
Director General stated that preparations for GST began well before implementation, with GST implementation personnel receiving formal training across all eight regional offices responsible for overseeing all 20 Dzongkhags. These regional offices later conducted training and awareness programs for shopkeepers nationwide.
Out of 3,500 targeted communities, 2,629 were trained, representing 74 percent coverage.
