Why Bother Learning Bulgarian?

Does an expat actually HAVE TO learn the language when you move abroad?

I live in Bansko, Bulgaria—a town full of tourists, digital nomads, and locals who speak excellent English. From landlords to electricians to delivery drivers, getting by in English here is surprisingly easy.

So is learning Bulgarian really worth all that work? Maybe. Maybe not.

In this video, I question the idea that expats have to learn the local language—especially when it’s hard, intimidating, and often unnecessary for day-to-day life. I also discuss my own personal decision about the need for language learning in Bulgaria and how I'm handling it.
