Ramon Ramos Acceptance Speech Induction Seton Hall U Hall of Fame 2006

Yes, Ramon Ramos was nervous and so were many nervous for him. Yes, he had a speech prepared. But would he be able to read it while the room was dark? Yes he was overwhelmed and overjoyed, a rollercoaster of emotions, memories flooding back .. Any 1 or 2 of these factors under so much pressure could've been maybe too much for Ramon to handle, or anyone for that matter. Sitting at the dais waiting his turn to give his acceptance speech I noticed Ramon didn't eat his served meal. Ramon was what could seem in a daze with his head looking down, not really listening to Intro's of his Fellow Inductees Class of 2006 nor their speeches.
Our table was in front of Ramon. At this point his family and friends begin to get concerned. Why if he was so extroverted when he saw and embraced his SHU Pirates Team mates but yet in the ceremony so introvert, quiet, inexpressive so it seemed. I glance towards him, looking for his eyes, trying to decipher what was going on or happening to him. I look closely and I see Ramon mumbling and then looking up and down again and again mumbling and his head moving up and then down. As He caught my intense glance and concern for his well being, He took a pause looked at me and smiled.
That's Ramon Ramos. While everyone else was eating, drinking or listening, Ramon was totally and completely focused on memorizing his speech.
My Heart melted right then and there. Because as always He was determined to deliver as best he could. What character, I'm always in awe of his tenacity, his constant challenging himself. He was determined to deliver as best he could. And he did. Emotions, tears and even laughter made this Special night unforgettable for all that felt the unquestionable LOVE towards this noble Giant. This took 3 years to make it all happen. Three years of complicated logistics, 3 years of lobbying for this after work hours and I'd do it again no regrets and I want to acknowledge and thank a special colleague who jumped into complicity and total trust. If not for commentator, TV Sports personality Lyssette Santiago we wouldn't have been able to pull it off. Also want to acknowledge another Angel 'cuz he was instrumental for this to come together is Ramon's best bud Pookey Wigington Seton Hall Pirates point guard.(5'3 yes u read right 5.3.inches tall) who after contacting and convoking his team mates Pookey was the only 1 that couldn't fly in from Los Angeles to New Jersey 'cuz of a major Snowstorm that left him stranded ..Much Love to you Pookey ..
