I visited the site of the world’s greatest environmental disaster: The Aral Sea in Uzbekistan. Is it actually safe to visit?
In today's episode of Bonk Voyage, we are traveling to Moynaq, Uzbekistan, to see the "Ship Graveyard." Once the world’s fourth-largest lake, the Aral Sea has almost completely vanished, leaving behind a desert of toxic salt, pesticides, and rusted abandoned ships.
In this video, I explore the seabed on foot, head inside the skeletal remains of Soviet fishing vessels, and meet locals to find out the truth: Can you actually swim in the water that’s left, or is it too polluted to touch?
