TIME OUT: DAVE BRUBECK QUARTET Classic Records 33 and 45 vs the Analogue Productions 45.

Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet was one of my first jazz albums. It's also one of the best selling jazz albums of all time. I was around the hobby during the Classic Records era and automatically bought both the 33 and the 45 versions. The 45 has always been one of the best sounding albums in my collection, butI was always put off by the cumbersome and wasteful presentation of all the Classic Records 45 sets. They were all issued on single sided discs making Time Out a 4 record set! to add to that, the jacket wasn't all that great, and was only used on the first disc in the set - the remaining three were in plain white jackets. Add to that there was no box to house them, and you can see how that way of presenting them didn't really work. I was very curious when Acoustic Sounds bought off Classic Records, and in the appearance of their version of Time Out, done from the original plates mastered by Doug Sax, but this time in a more concise two record set, housed in a high quality gatefold. That alone was a pleasure to behold, but what surprised me is that the sonic presentation was improved as well! I discuss all the particulars in this video. Hope you enjoy it!
