Paper cut silhouettes, originating in ancient China, became a popular art form in Europe in the 18th century. German animator Lotte Reiniger pioneered silhouette animation in the 20th century, influencing films with her intricate work on fairytales still today. African American artist Kara Walker uses silhouettes to critique racial issues, depicting historical and modern inequalities. Silhouette art remains a powerful, simple form of expression that invites us to tell our own stories.

For this you will need an:
A4 piece of black paper
A4 piece of cardboard
Glue
Pencil
Scissors
Tape
Lollipop sticks or skewers
Lamp (or strong sunlight)
