From '3 Danses anciennes',
------------------------------------------------
Chaminade (1857-1944) wrote the 'Danses anciennes' in 1899. The Pavane was the first piece by her that I ever played. The piano writing is quite 'big'. The piece is dedicated to Edmond de Laheudrie (1861-1946), a Paris-based sculptor and patron of the arts who hosted concerts. One of his sculptures, the war damaged 'Le Monument aux Morts' commissioned by the people of Trevieres (Utah Beach) after WW1, was recast as part of the US National D-Day Memorial.
