The first run of Mumbai Rajdhani with Tejas rakes had its own share of snags. Passengers waiting for the August Kranti Rajdhani Express boarded this by mistake and ended up pulling the chain at Borivali. This delayed the train by a couple of minutes. Later, there was a signal failure at Boisar and the train was stranded for 30 minutes before departing again. This meant that the train had a delay of 30 minutes till Vadodara.

Regular users of the Rajdhani Express believe that the so-called upgrade to Tejas rake is a gimmick and the charm & luxury that the Western Railways provided with the original LHB rake on this train for AC First Class can not be replaced. However, for the AC 3 Tier and AC 2 Tier, the Tejas rake is an absolute upgrade as the coaches come with modern features and aesthetic interiors.

The 12951 / 12952 Mumbai Rajdhani Express is a super fast express train of Rajdhani class belonging to Indian Railways that runs between Mumbai Central (MMCT) and New Delhi (NDLS) in India. It is the second fastest Rajdhani service in all of India, surpassed by only the Bandra Rajdhani, with an average running speed (ARS) of nearly 88 km/h. It also known as King of all Rajdhani due to his services.

It was introduced on 17 May 1972 between the then Bombay Central (MMCT) and New Delhi. The train became so popular that prior to the introduction of current reservation facility its reservation chart was prepared just 15 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.

It is a daily service. It operates as train number 12951 down from Mumbai Central to New Delhi and as train number 12952 up in the reverse direction. As a COVID Special, it is running as 02951 and 02952 respectively.

On 19 July 2021, the train made its first commercial run with its new Tejas class smart coaches replacing its traditional LHB Rajdhani coaches.
