Hello! My name is Sakurai Miyuki, and I live in Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai District, Nagano Prefecture.
The nearest station is Yudanaka Station, located at 600 meters above sea level.
So today, I’ll be speaking from a higher perspective (literally)! 😄
This town is largely designated as part of the Shiga Kogen UNESCO Eco Park,
a place of incredible natural beauty and the only place in the world where you can find snow monkeys in hot springs.
These snow monkeys reside at Jigokudani Yaen-Koen, located at 850 meters elevation.
Above that, there's the Shiga Kogen Ski Resort, one of the largest in Japan, stretching across 18 ski areas between 1500 to 2000 meters in altitude.
This area was also one of the venues for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.
At the border with Gunma Prefecture, the Yokoteyama Ski Area stays open until June.
The summit of Mt. Yokote is 2,307 meters, and in winter, even shrine structures over 2 meters tall get buried under snow.
You can enjoy stunning views of the Northern Alps from there.
Shibu Pass, also on the Gunma border, is at 2,172 meters above sea level, and a short 10-minute walk takes you to the highest point of Japan's national roads at 2,192 meters.
In winter, this road (Route 292) is closed and can only be accessed by snowshoeing or skiing.
Much of Shiga Kogen is also designated as Joshinetsu Kogen National Park.
From May to October, I work as a trekking guide in Shiga Kogen.
From September to January, I sell apples and grapes online.
Using primarily LINE, I cater exclusively to individual customers.
Over eight seasons, I've sold a total of 10 tons of apples.
Without a physical store or car, and spending only 30,000 yen on advertising, I've achieved sales of 7.5 million yen, resulting in a ROAS (Return on Advertising Spend) of 25,000%.
Since I manage everything alone, I don't intend to scale up further.
For my official LINE account, spending 10,000 yen on ads brings in 100 prospective customers, achieving a CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) of 100 yen.
Most people are unaware of this method, so I now also teach it as part of my work.
This is my tenth year living in this town, and I can confidently say I know it inside out—I truly love this place.
Within the Shiga Kogen UNESCO Eco Park, 137 bird species have been recorded, and I've personally added four more to that list.
I've photographed 90 species myself.
In Nagano Prefecture, popular birdwatching spots like Kamikochi, Togakushi, and Karuizawa each have around 100 species.
I hold a Level 1 Birdwatching Certification.
Since moving here, I've been soaking in hot springs daily.
That's because there are no freshwater baths in this town—so I have no choice but to enjoy hot springs every day.
My daily routine includes walking along the river at 600 meters elevation, which is akin to high-altitude training, keeping me physically and mentally healthy.
The apple orchards span from around Yudanaka Station to the Sano area across the river, at the foot of Mount Kosha, which stands at 1,351 meters.
These orchards are situated between 500 and 700 meters in elevation.
The significant temperature differences between day and night, along with abundant snowmelt, nourish the orchards, producing delicious fruits.
In addition to apples, the area cultivates grapes, peaches, plums, cherries, and walnuts.
Although rice paddies are few, the specially cultivated "Yukishiro Mai" rice is exceptionally tasty.
Many farmers here are relatively young; while the average age of Japanese farmers is 68, all my suppliers are younger than me—and I'm 67.
The local agricultural cooperative is "JA Nagano," but the former Shiga Kogen Agricultural Cooperative brand still holds high esteem, and their boxes labeled "Shiga Kogen" are still in use.
On Rakuten, prices can reach as high as 5,800 yen for three apples.
My longest previous occupation was 30 years at an agrochemical company, with 20 of those years in B2B sales.
Having worked in 30 prefectures across Japan, I have a comprehensive understanding of domestic agriculture.
I also spent six and a half years in research.
I've moved 18 times, living in seven prefectures: Aichi, Mie, Shizuoka, Miyagi, Fukuoka, Tochigi, and Nagano.
Though I haven't lived in Aomori, Chiba, or Kagoshima, I've stayed in hotels there for numerous nights.
All these are agricultural regions.
Other qualifications I hold include: Sixth Industrialization Producer, Chef License, Agricultural High School Teaching Certificate, Agricultural Extension Officer, Nagano Prefecture Agrochemical Management Instructor, and a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture.
I'm currently renewing my Salesperson Certification.
Recently, I created new titles for myself such as “Smart Sales Agricultural Guide” and “Digital Agricultural Marketer.”
This message was written entirely from memory—aside from checking the elevation of Mt. Kosha, I didn’t look anything up.
