The city of Kyoto is surrounded on 3 sides by forested hills. The Kyoto Trail is a series of linked tracks over variety of terrain ranging from rough steep forest trails to roads, and spanning the entire distance (about 70km). Every few kilometres the trail descends into the city, crosses a road near a bus stop, or passes a cable car station, dividing the trail into convenient half or one-day hikes.
Mount Dimonji is one of the most popular, and the second highest point on the eastern side.
