Camping at Skelton Tower

Celebrating 30 years of wild campimg. Was marred by “real” wild campers .

Arriving at 3:30pm, I threw my bag on my shoulders and headed into the North Yorkshire moors for tonight’s destination.
I got to the tower at 4 and set up camp for the night.
3 hours of peace and quiet in the most beautiful scenery passed until, come 7pm 5 blokes and 3 dogs turn up to camp at the same place.
Surprised someone was already there early (why wouldn’t I be🤦🏻‍♂️) they set up their camp.
With their tents set up, fairy lights hung, and food been cooked I was expecting the 5 men to be having a drink and partying till late.
How wrong I was.
They were in bed by 10 and lights out by 11.
So to be courteous i stayed in my tent and made no noise.
If you know my camps, I like to drink, make noise, act stupid and enjoy myself until the early hours.
Come 7am these “wild campers” got up and did nothing but make noise, shout and allow their dogs to run around and bark for an hour and a half until half past 8 when they left.
Firstly it’s rude to camp where someone is already pitched and secondly it’s bang out of order when I’ve stayed quiet all night so they could sleep off their wild 3 hours to get up so early and make all that noise.
If that’s what “real” wild campers do, you’re an embarrassment to the community and I want nothing to do with it.
Absolutely disgraceful behaviour.

That aside, I made what I could of the night, sat in my tent, drinking beer and wine.
I shall return here at some point in the future and hopefully won’t have to share the place with “real” wild campers again.
