About The Pulse Check – Episode Two
With Global Fund financing , The Pulse Check highlights how strong partnership between UNDP and the Government of Zimbabwe is transforming the country’s health system ahead of the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment Summit , set for Friday, 21 November 2025 in Johannesburg .
This episode focuses on solidarity, sustainability, and innovation , three of the five principles being championed by the Summit’s co-hosts, South Africa and the United Kingdom . These principles are central to the Global Fund’s partnership model , which brings together governments, development partners, and communities to achieve lasting health impact.
UNDP Zimbabwe Resident Representative Dr. Ayodele Odusola and Communications Specialist Joyous A.L. Begisen discuss how this collaboration has translated Global Fund financing into measurable results, from retaining over 27,000 health workers , to installing solar systems in more than 1,000 health facilities , and expanding digital health systems that improve visibility, efficiency, and accountability across the country.
Since 2009 , UNDP in Zimbabwe has managed over US$2.8 billion in Global Fund investments , supporting the national response to HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria .
The Pulse Check reflects on how Global Fund financing , under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and Child Care , and with UNDP’s strong fiduciary and implementation support , has actualised these principles within Zimbabwe’s health system, turning commitment into real impact for communities across the country. The next and final episode will explore the remaining principles of equity and reform .
