Professor Reinstein has been awarded the prestigious Joseph Colin Award in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to eye surgery, specifically in vision correction. His work includes developing advanced techniques for mapping the surface of the eye's outer layer (epithelial mapping) and creating high-resolution imaging to visualize detailed cross-sections of the cornea, the clear front part of the eye. These innovations have improved how eye measurements are taken (biometry) and enhanced the precision of fitting implantable contact lenses (ICLs) for vision correction. Professor Reinstein also pioneered PRESBYOND, a laser procedure to treat age-related loss of near vision (presbyopia) without the need for cataract surgery. Additionally, his clinical advancements in SMILE, a minimally invasive laser eye surgery that reshapes the cornea to correct vision, have significantly improved patient outcomes. Through these contributions, Professor Reinstein has advanced the field of refractive surgery, providing cutting-edge solutions for a range of vision problems.
