Dale Dye, an actor, director, and writer, and retired U.S. Marine, served at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in the early 1980s.
Best known for working on movies such as Saving Private Ryan and Platoon, Capt. Dye is part of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's target group for one of the largest health surveys in agency history. ATSDR is conducting a survey of more than 300,000 people who lived or worked at Camp Lejeune or Camp Pendleton in the 1970s and 1980s. In partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps, ATSDR is asking a sample of former Marines, sailors, their families, and civilian employees to answer questions about where and when they lived at the base, and about health conditions they have experienced.
In this video, Capt. Dye interviews ATSDR Director Chris Portier about the reason for the survey, health conditions of concern, and why it is important for everyone who receives it to fill it out.
