May 1997 Wisconsin Central & CN's Grand Trunk Western, WC GP7 GP38-2 AMTK P32BWH CN SD40-3 GTW SD40!
Before the acquisition of Wisconsin Central by Canadian National in October 2001, the WC was a growing regional railroad in the upper Midwest. On May 19, 1997, a WC GP7 and a GP38-2, both former Algoma Central units, were switching and delivering freight cars on the Fox Valley & Western, a WC subsidiary. This was the former Chicago & North Western Valley Subdivision. The GP38-2 was still in its Algoma Central paint scheme. Then, on May 22, 1997, Amtrak's Wolverine, northbound from Detroit, Michigan, to Pontiac, traversed Canadian National's Grand Trunk Western Holly Subdivision. On the point was a P32BWH in its original Amtrak paint scheme. The freight trains on this line had quite a mix of motive power, including GTW GP38-2, Norfolk Southern C30-7, CN SD40-3, Conrail SD45-2, HLCX (Helm Financial Leasing) SD40M-3 and a straight GTW SD40.
