అమెరికాలో చేయని తప్పుకి శిక్ష??US court releases innocent Indian origin man?||#teluguvlogsfromusa
Subramanyam "Subu" Vedam is an Indian-origin man who was wrongfully imprisoned in the United States for 43 years for a murder he did not commit. After his murder conviction was vacated in October 2025, he was released from state prison, only to be immediately detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and now faces deportation to India.
Details of his wrongful conviction and current situation:
The crime: In 1980, Vedam's former roommate and childhood friend, Thomas Kinser, was found shot to death. Vedam was the last person to see him alive.
The conviction: In 1983, a Pennsylvania court convicted Vedam of the murder and sentenced him to life in prison, largely based on circumstantial evidence.
The evidence: Supporters say there was no physical evidence tying Vedam to the murder. In 2022, new evidence discovered by the Pennsylvania Innocence Project revealed that prosecutors had concealed an FBI report and other notes that would have dismantled the case against him.
Exoneration: In October 2025, after a judge ruled that evidence was improperly suppressed, the Centre County District Attorney dropped all charges against Vedam, making him the longest-serving exoneree in Pennsylvania history.
ICE detention: Following his release, ICE agents immediately took Vedam into custody, citing a 1988 deportation order related to an earlier drug offense. The murder conviction had kept him in state custody for decades, freezing the immigration process. Now that he is exonerated of the murder, ICE is enforcing the older order.
Deportation threat: Vedam came to the U.S. from India as a nine-month-old infant and has lived in Pennsylvania ever since. His family says he has no ties to India and barely speaks the language.
Advocacy: Vedam's legal team and family are fighting his deportation, arguing that sending him to a country he does not know would compound the injustice of his wrongful incarceration. While in prison, Vedam was a model inmate, tutoring fellow prisoners and earning a master's degree. His supporters hope that in light of his exoneration, a deportation waiver will be granted.
