While not exactly a traditional STG, I also love a good rail shooter. The Panzer series is right there at the top for me.
While I think they really crafted the perfect game with the sequel, the first game is no slouch either. Such a stupendous score to boot, matching the frenetic on-screen action perfectly. Everyone raves about Episode 1, and with good reason, but Episode 3 here was always the one that really hooked me with its driving beat and heavy feel. Even though the rhythm section is relatively repetitive, this one never gets old for me.
